Another ISO 31000 Certificate Mill Pops Up [UPDATED]

[UPDATED: see below] In what's become an international trend, another unaccredited ISO 31000 certificate mill has emerged, proving that few of the companies offering certifications on the risk management standard have done actual risk assessments on their own dubious...

Nearly Two Thirds of US TAG Comments on DIS 9001 Were Rejected by TC 176

Nearly Two Thirds of US TAG Comments on DIS 9001 Were Rejected by TC 176

There may not be a better example of the ineffective and weak leadership of the US TAG to TC 176 than the leaked file of international comments on the coming ISO 9001:2015 standard. It shows, with stunning clarity, how the TAG 176 got beaten bloody by its international counterparts, and failed utterly in effectively communicating the US position.

Oxebridge Audio Series: Why Certification Body Auditors Are Terrible

Oxebridge Audio Series: Why Certification Body Auditors Are Terrible

From a talk given at a closed event in February 2015, this discussion looks at why ISO 9001 certification body auditors routinely perform poorly, and how the current lack of training, as well as psychological factors which arise during the audit experience, ensure auditors will remain poor performers. Includes steps which must be taken to reverse this trend.

Read ANSI CEO Joe Bhatia’s 2012 Testimony before Congress

In 2012 ANSI CEO Joe Bhatia testified before the US House Committee on Space, Science and Technology, and assured the Congress that all was well with both ANSI the organization and its’ two primary functions: standards development and conformity assessment oversight. As we know, both are entirely off the rails, and have been so for years.

Want to Join the AS9100 Committee? Good Luck!

Want to Join the AS9100 Committee? Good Luck!

To test the theory that the IAQG isn’t really interested in allowing actual users of AS9100 join the ranks of those responsible for writing the standard, I thought I’d do what I usually do, and shove my head in the lion’s mouth so you don’t have to.

How does ISO 9001:2015 Stack Up Against Deming’s 14 Points?

How does ISO 9001:2015 Stack Up Against Deming’s 14 Points?

It’s generally accepted in the quality profession that W. Edwards Deming’s “14 Points for the Transformation of Management” are considered a revolutionary way to view quality, and have been successfully used in major manufacturing organizations. Yet ISO 9001 has never much embraced Deming’s 14 points. The new ISO 9001:2015 standard had an opportunity to correct this, but did they? Let’s see how the new standard stacks up.

Quick Hit: What Registrars Are Saying about Risk-Based Thinking

Larry Caracciolo's blog on ISO 9001 is running some good material lately, and his new post on what the CBs are saying about ISO 9001:2015's "risk-based thinking" is worth a look. We can conclude three things from the research of certain TC 176 documents and a sampling...

US TAG Elections – A More Serious Look

US TAG Elections – A More Serious Look

Pressing for electoral reform within the US TAG to ISO TC 176 is a first step in fixing the institutionalized cronyism within ANSI’s TAGs, and to correct course on the disastrous ISO 9001:2015 draft due to be published later this year.

Blood in the Water – New QMS Standards Challenge ISO 9001

Blood in the Water – New QMS Standards Challenge ISO 9001

There’s an unprecedented new angle to the dissent being faced by ISO 9001:2015: competition. ISO 9001:2015 is looking more and more like a wounded swimmer, and the sharks are circling. Multiple alternatives to the standard are cropping up, some from the most unusual places.

How to Audit “Risk-Based Thinking”

How to Audit “Risk-Based Thinking”

The future of how certification bodies (CBs) will audit the new ISO 9001:2015 "risk based thinking" language is already setting, like a wet clay in the oven. In short, they are going to default to traditional risk management techniques and impose FMEA on their...

IAF: Training on ISO 9001:2015 Will Not Be Required for Registrars

IAF: Training on ISO 9001:2015 Will Not Be Required for Registrars

The International Accreditation Forum will not require accredited certification bodies (CBs) to train their auditors on the new requirements of ISO 9001:2015 before allowing them to audit companies against the new standard. This comes despite some areas of the new standard which the IAF has deemed “significant.”

Sources: AS9100 to Decouple From ISO 9001 by 2020

Sources: AS9100 to Decouple From ISO 9001 by 2020

Sources within the IAQG and AAQG have confirmed to Oxebridge that the groups intend to “decouple” AS9100 from ISO 9001 in about five years. The result will be that the IAQG creates a standalone accreditation scheme that does not rely on ANAB or other IAF accredited registrars, and the AS9100 standard itself will no longer align with ISO 9001.

8 Months Later, TC 176 Rules on Quality Policy Question

8 Months Later, TC 176 Rules on Quality Policy Question

TC 176 was asked whether an ISO 9001 certified organization needed to literally include words addressing continual improvement, or whether wording that implied continual improvement would be acceptable. Eight months later, they finally made a ruling, although haven’t published it.
