Aerospace Tri-System: AS9100 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001
WHAT IS IT?
An Aerospace Tri-System integrated management system is achieved by simultaneously implementing AS9100 for Aerospace Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management and ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management. This reduces overall costs of implementation and dramatically reduces redundancies.
WHO IS IT FOR?
While the ISO 14001 and 45001 standards are generic, and can be used by any type of company, the AS9100 standard is designed for companies operating in the aviation, space and defense sectors. With an Aerospace Tri-System, a company can develop an Integrated Management System to align with international practices, while maintaining an aerospace focus.
WHY DO WE NEED IT?
The ISO standards are often demanded by customers or aerospace primes as a requirement to do business with them. It is also used to show customers and the public that your company has a positive impact on the environment, is concerned about workplace safety, and pursues continual improvement of quality.
OXEBRIDGE’S ROLE?
Oxebridge provides consulting and implementation of ISO and AS standards for companies that want to implement the standard. Oxebridge only helps with implementation, and does not provide certification.
HOW MUCH IS IT?
Certification costs are determined by the Certification Body, but average about $1,300 per audit day. The number of audit days is based on employee count and other factors, per IAF MD5. An integrated Tri-System will use more days than a single standard certification, but still far less than three separate certification audits. Oxebridge’s implementation costs are discussed below.
HOW LONG?
Oxebridge can provide the implementation portion in as little as three months. The Certification Body audit then takes a few days, but the final certificate may not be received until a month later.
WHERE DO I BUY IT?
The ISO standards are available for sale by ISO at www.iso.ch. They may be available through national standards bodies at lower prices, however. The AS9100 standard is available from SAE.
WHAT IS CERTIFICATION?
A company that implements the standard can then obtain “ISO certification” by undergoing an audit by an accredited Certification Body. After a successful audit, the company receives internationally-recognized certificates attesting that the company complies with AS9100, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
WHO CERTIFIES IT?
Various Certification Bodies — or “registrars” — offer ISO certification. Each must be accredited by an IAF member Accreditation Body. For a list of ANAB accredited bodies click here and filter the list for those that offer AS9100 certification. Be sure to ask if the registrar offers simultaneous Tri-System integrated management system certification audits.
