AS9100 – Aerospace Quality Management System
WHAT IS IT?
AS9100 is a standard defining quality system requirements for companies in the aviation, space or defense industries.
WHO IS IT FOR?
AS9100 is specifically targeted for manufacturing firms responsible for building aircraft, spacecraft or other products within the aviation, space and defense industries. It can also be applied for some service organizations in these industries.
WHY DO WE NEED IT?
AS9100 is often demanded by aerospace primes such as Boeing, Lockheed or NASA as a requirement to do business with them. It is also used to help develop a mature Aerospace Quality Management System intended to improve the company, regardless of customer demands.
OXEBRIDGE’S ROLE?
Oxebridge provides consulting and implementation of AS9100 for companies that want to implement the standard. Oxebridge only helps with implementation, and does not provide certification.
HOW MUCH IS IT?
Certification costs are determined by the Certification Body, but average about $1,300 per audit day. The number of audit days is based on employee count and other factors, per IAF MD5. Oxebridge’s implementation costs are discussed below.
HOW LONG?
Oxebridge can provide the implementation portion in as little as 4o working days (two months). The Certification Body audit then takes a few days, but the final certificate may not be received until a month later.
WHERE DO I BUY IT?
The AS9100 standard is only available from SAE via this link.
WHAT IS CERTIFICATION?
A company that implements the standard can then obtain “AS9100 certification” by undergoing an audit by an accredited Certification Body. After a successful audit, the company receives an internationally-recognized certificate attesting that the Quality Management System conforms to AS9100.
WHO CERTIFIES IT?
Various Certification Bodies — or “registrars” — offer AS9100 certification. Each must be accredited by an IAF member Accreditation Body, and have additional accreditation to offer AS9100 certificates. For a list of ANAB accredited bodies click here; filter the list for those that offer AS9100.

The program includes development of custom aerospace QMS documentation, internal auditor training, customized all-hands training, a full round of internal QMS audits, management review, and the full suite of aerospace-specific requirements such as FOD control, counterfeit part control, product safety and material certification.
