I am not going to put any links to it, but the latest draft of ISO 9001:2026 has been leaked online and can be found in the wild. This is the latest version of “CD2“, or the second “Committee Draft” that was just released for review by TC 176 insiders.
I am told, but have no way of confirming, that ISO accidentally published the draft document but then realized its mistake and switched the file back to private. Now, I’m personally not sure how they might have done that, since most of the documents are shared in ISO’s secure portal. ISO did, however, roll out a new portal called “ISOlutions” as of January, but I did not think it had gone live yet. It could be that the draft was published there, and the security wasn’t locked down. I really don’t know.
The CD2 standard is out there, though, if you’re plucky enough to know where to look. The leaked version has been watermarked and I cannot tell if that was done by ISO itself or the leaker.
The consulting crowd should be happy, as a peek inside the draft will give them two strategic advantages: they can start working on their latest books and seminars early, and they can start sucking up to ISO by promoting “opportunity-based thinking” (as if it were a real thing, which it isn’t). The latter is the fastest way to get a plum committee seat and praise from Geneva.
For the rest of the world, I would hope that maybe an outpouring of outrage over the content of the draft would drive ISO to change course, fire Sam Somerville and her cadre of private consultants on TC 176 SC2, and make a QMS standard that actually reflects current best practices. But under ISO Secretary-General Sergio Mujica’s corrupt, banana republic form of leadership we cannot have nice things, so all of that is unlikely.
BTW, I still refer to this as “ISO 9001:2026,” even though there still remains the possibility this won’t get published until early 2027.
