Here’s a blast from the past. Back when Alka Jarvis was hand-picked by outgoing US TAG to TC 176 Chairman Jack West to replace him, Quality Digest ran this article announcing her impending ascension.
Note how the editors never bother to raise any controversy over the fact that “Jarvis is the only person nominated for the position,” nor do they do anything but merely republish an abbreviated version of the meeting minutes.
Note as well the dates… Jarvis was “nominated” in October, and the vote was held just one month later, in November, ensuring that no competing write-in candidate could ever challenge her coronation. The piece even congratulates Lorri Hunt for her work on “developing some of the TAG’s internal procedures,” rather than question her on how those procedures violate basic American concepts like competitive, fair elections.
Frustrated by this mess? Well remember, if we’re going to have a sham election this year, we may as well have a sham candidate.
