I’m pleased to announce the pre-release “Behemoth Edition” of THE BLASPHEMIES OF DR. CUBA has been sent to subscribers of the Dr. Cuba Cult of Crime mailing list. If you’re not up to date, that’s the third book in my Dr. Cuba series of crime/horror/pulp novels. As with the first two books, I send a pre-release edition to fans prior to final publication; these have not yet been edited and often contain story beats, plot points, and other elements that either get cut or changed for the final edition.
For the first book, DR. CUBA, fans received the “Secret Syndicate Edition.” For Book II, THE THREE HEADS OF DR. CUBA, advance readers received the “Birthmass Edition.”
The Dr. Cuba novels center around a mysterious, and possibly inhuman, criminal mastermind who is pursued by Interpol inspector Heiner Thumann in the late 1940s to early 1950s. The books look to capture the spirit of old pulp novels, film noir detective movies, and borrow themes from early German cinema, with heavy influence from director Fritz Lang. They are spiritual successors to the Dr. Mabuse and Fantômas cinematic franchises, although you need know nothing about them to enjoy the books.

Subscribers to the Cult of Crime list get all three books for free, in electronic format. That is a limited-time deal. (Sign up here.)
Books I and II are currently on sale on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle format.
I won’t give anything away, but the ending of Book III gives some closure and allows me the freedom to branch off a bit with my next novel. Instead of starting Book IV (currently titled THE CRUCIBLE OF DR. CUBA), I’ve decided to work on an adjacent novel set in the Dr. Cuba universe but featuring a popular side character.
The next novel is called THE GREAT MADAME BLAVATSKY and features the enigmatic and offbeat “swamp witch,” Helena Blavatsky. If that name sounds familiar, a real Russian mystic named Helena Blavatsky lived in the 1800s and revolutionized mystic studies. The character in my books claims to be a descendant of the real Blavatsky, but she cannot be entirely trusted to tell the truth about much, so the real story is up for grabs.
In this next novel, 1950’s Blavatsky is summoned to perform a seance for a set of wealthy socialites in Louisiana, which quickly turns into a murder mystery as the guests begin to die off. But this is no mere Agatha Christie style whodunit, as nothing Blavatsky encounters is ever what it seems.
