saecrashBecause rejecting people once doesn’t apparently meet their procedures, the SAE has re-rejected me for membership in the Americas Aerospace Quality Standards Committee (AAQSC), the group responsible for developing the AS9100 series of standards.

If you recall, I was already rejected back in May, and at that time they quoted the following reasons.

Based on the information provided, your application does not meet committee membership requirements:

  • A request to act as an outside advocate to an unidentified group versus as an individual according the SAE Aerospace Council Organization and Operating Procedures
  • Any history, of past engagement with the SAE G-14 AAQSC Committee to ensure active contribution to the committee
  • The SAE G-14 AAQSC Committee’s desire to maintain balance of industry stakeholders

I pushed back, showing how nearly every member of the AAQSC was openly promoting themselves — or being promoted by the IQAG itself — as “representing” Boeing, Lockheed or some other aero prime. This apparently prompted the SAE to do some additional soul-searching, but they again came to the same conclusion. This time, though, they provided this as the rationale for the re-rejection:

Based on the information provided, your application does not meet committee membership requirements:

  • A request to act as an outside advocate to an unidentified group versus as an individual according the SAE Aerospace Council Organization and Operating Procedures

Well that clears things up.

Apparently in the highly professional, staid world of aerospace management system standards development, the best way to counter your opponent in a debate is to simply stamp your foot and shout the same thing, only louder. The really strange thing is that this time, the SAE included copies of all the committee rules, which only highlighted the fact that the current AAQSC leaders are in violation of them.

No wonder the Dreamliner and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter are such disasters.
