Maitland FL — Somec, a division of SNK America, has begun a Rapid AS9100 upgrade program with Oxebridge Quality Resources. The company is currently certified to ISO 9001:2000 by Perry Johnson Registrars.
The upgrade will bring Somec up to compliance to AS9100 Revision C, which includes the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. Because registrars are currently required to audit to AS9100 Revision B, Oxebridge is ensuring backward-compliance to the previous revision of the aerospace quality system standard as well. Third party registrars cannot certify quality systems to AS9100 C until official rules and audit-day tables are published.
Somec is a contract machining and manufacturing company specializing in complex CNC parts, of both small and large size. It services commercial, industrial, military and aerospace clients. Somec also builds its own Prodigy GT-27 high precicion gang tool lathe for sale to other machining companies. The company began as U.S. Can in 1955, and expanded into complex machining for a wider range of industries.
Oxebridge’s Rapid AS9100 upgrade service takes an ISO 9001 registered company and brings it into compliance with the aerospace standard in only a few weeks, depending on size and scope of the company. Somec has approximately 75 employees at its Maitland FL campus, and Oxebridge has developed an implementation plan that will upgrade the company to full AS9100 B/C compliance with only seven days of work by Oxebridge, spread out over a few week period.
Somec will then invite Perry Johnson Registrars back in to assess their compliance, and upgrade their current certification to full AS9100 registration.
