Everyone knows unaccredited certificate mills, and their inbred cousins the self-accredited mills, have tons of money to throw around. That’s because they make some pretty incredible marketing claims, and appear to be able to afford the highest priced attorneys to prosecute defamation claims when someone reveals their fakery.
But the truth is these guys are broke! Might be hard to imagine, but they actually spent all their money on logo design for those certificates they print issue, and there’s not much left to pay for getting internationally accredited and joining the world as a legitimate conformity assessment body.
ISO just snatched that excuse away. For a mere 340 Swiss francs — which is equivalent to 100 gold knuts or something — you can buy a subscription to all the ISO conformity assessment standards in one big bundle. While it’s a great first step towards getting accredited, at the very least you can be sure which ISO 170xx standard to improperly claim compliance to, so when you are lying, you don’t sound like a dweeb doing so.
