As you know, I finished the manuscript for Dr. Cuba III (THE BLASPHEMIES OF DR. CUBA), but final publication is waiting on a few critical steps. It needs to be formally edited by my wonderful editor, Parisa Zolfaghari, and I also need to negotiate some rights to some supporting characters.
As with my prior books, I will release a special fan-only “Pre-Release Edition” of the novel prior to the final publication. This version is typically filled with mistakes, errors, and even some plot holes, but it gives readers an early look at the manuscript. For Book III, I will be sending the pre-release “Behemoth Edition” of THE BLASPHEMIES OF DR. CUBA shortly.
Previously, early readers received the Secret Syndicate Edition of the first book, DR. CUBA, and the Birthmass Edition of THE THREE HEADS OF DR. CUBA. Maybe they’ll be worth money someday.
The Dr. Cuba series follows the genres created by the old novels, serials and films of Dr. Mabuse, Fantomas, and the films of Fritz Lang and other German expressionists. It is a classical pulp detective novel with elements of horror, science fiction, and mysticism. I’m probably writing this at least fifty years too late, but fans of old dime novels will get a kick out of it.
While the fourth book is already titled (THE SCREAM OF DR. CUBA), I may put that on hold and take a break from the adventures of Inspector Thumann and his assistant Xiomena Torres. Instead, my next novel looks like it will be something entirely different, but still based in the Dr. Cuba universe. Dr. Cuba will not be the antagonist, however, and it will have a new cast of characters with a different protagonist.
