Charles Scalies, of Source4Quality, has collated a list of “ISO Apocrypha” from a LinkedIn discussion. These represent the many, many memes, bad interpretations and oft-parroted expectations of ISO 9001 auditors that have no bearing whatsoever in ISO 9001, or are just outright false.
For example, how many of you have heard these gems?
- ISO 9001 requires document numbers.
- Authors cannot review and approve their own documents.
- Internal auditors must attend an auditing course. They cannot be competent if they haven’t.
- Nonconforming product must be physically segregated, in a locked cage.
The list is huge, and worth looking over. Check out Charles’ page here, at Source4Quality.com. Look for the ISO Apocrypha link (direct PDF download.)
