TC 176

ISO Technical Committee 176, or “TC 176” for short, is the official international committee responsible for creating the ISO 9001 standard. It reports to the ISO headquarters in Geneva, as well as to the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB).

In the universe of THE AUDITOR, TC 176 operates out of its Ivory Tower in an undisclosed location, surrounded by a moat to prevent access by ISO 9001 users.

Meetings of TC 176 are led by a variety of ISO figures, including Nigel Croft, Mark Braham, and Paul Simpson.

TC 176 prides itself on ignoring the will of ISO 9001 users, and instead creating a standard that is more complicated than necessary, thus ensuring a stream of revenue for Croft and his consulting cronies.

The United States is represented in TC 176 by the US TAG 176.

These characters are based on real public figures, and satirized for the purposes of humor and social commentary. The depiction within the strip is not to be construed as based on fact.

Why we report on these topics

Since 2000, Oxebridge has worked to improve ISO and related certification schemes by identifying problems and then proposing solutions. We report on issues affecting standards users because so few other news outlets do. Our belief is that in order to fix the problems in these schemes, we must first understand the nature and breadth of those problems. Our reporting aims to do just that. Elsewhere on the Oxebridge site you will find White Papers and other articles proposing ideas to correct these problems.
