TAG 176
The ANSI Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC 176, called “US TAG 176” or “TAG 176” for short, is the American committee responsible for drafting the ISO 9001 standard. TAG 176 is supposed to provide the official US drafts and recommendations for ISO 9001 to ISO, for consideration. If TC 176 is the international ISO 9001 standard development body, the TAG 176 is the domestic US body.
In the universe of THE AUDITOR, the TAG 176 is headed by Boeing representative Alan Daniels, but Daniels never shows up at meetings because his flights are always delayed because of Boeing aircraft malfunctions. In his place, TAG 176 meetings are led by former chairpersons Alka Jarvis, Paul Palmes or Jack West.
Whereas in prior years, the TAG 176 was flush with cash and respected the world over, due to poor leadership by West, Jarvis and Palmes, the US reputation has diminished within ISO. The group now holds its meetings at the run-down Waffle Hut under the bridge.
