{"id":16939,"date":"2019-02-01T19:20:40","date_gmt":"2019-02-02T00:20:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/?p=16939"},"modified":"2019-02-02T07:23:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-02T12:23:39","slug":"asq-used-skewed-poll-question-to-generate-evidence-for-its-pro-china-article","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/asq-used-skewed-poll-question-to-generate-evidence-for-its-pro-china-article\/","title":{"rendered":"ASQ Used Skewed &#8220;Poll&#8221; Question to Generate Evidence for Its Pro-China Article"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure what&#8217;s worse, ASQ&#8217;s hamfisted efforts to get its members to side with China over the United States, or its\u00a0public-facing bungling of its attempts to do so.<\/p>\n<p>A reader caught <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/asq-takes-its-pro-china-posture-to-the-pages-of-quality-progress\/\">my article<\/a> from two days ago on how ASQ&#8217;s new pro-China policy has infected the pages of its premier journal, Quality Progress, and revealed that the article&#8217;s editor was trying to drum up evidence months beforehand, clearly to add credence to ASQ&#8217;s position.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November 2018 on the new MyASQ\u00a0forum board, Lindsay Dal Porto ran a &#8220;reaction gauge&#8221; poll asking members how their companies have been impacted on US\u00a0tariffs placed on China, framing it with an entirely anti-US, pro-China skew:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The new tariffs the United States has placed on foreign steel and aluminum and Chinese imports has cost American businesses millions of dollars. Among those hit the hardest are auto manufacturers, retailers and certain markets in the food and beverage industry. How has your organization been affected by these tariffs? What other industries have been affected by these tariffs?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll.jpg 1165w, https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll-150x78.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll-768x400.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.oxebridge.com\/emma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/asqpoll-1080x563.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dal Porto wasn&#8217;t listed as the author of the resulting Quality Progress piece,\u00a0but was credited as the person who &#8220;compiled&#8221; the report. We still don&#8217;t know who actually wrote it.<\/p>\n<p>Dal Porto hasn&#8217;t answered my requests for clarification on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth pointing out that as of today &#8212; months later &#8212; the thread only got 4 replies, and none of them were particularly anti-China, meaning the effort to generate evidence to support a predetermined position\u00a0fizzled.
