We purchase software to manage our calibration system – Unique ID, equipment description & type, date calibrated, next due date, create status reports, issue recall lists etc. etc. We pay the annual fees to keep the software current.
Should the software be “validated” somehow?
Should the people we buy the software from be on our Approved Supplier list?
My initial thoughts are NO on both counts because the software is not actually doing the calibration or providing a service to us. I recognize it is a tool we use to support our In-house calibration efforts, and a dump for the status records.
For the calibration we cannot perform ourselves, we use Calibration Houses who are on our Approved supplier list, and their certs are scanned in electronically and maintained separately, but we use the software we purchased to manage when it is due etc
Your thoughts please
