Image EnlargerIt was probably to be expected, as the same thing happened with my first book, but the publication date for Surviving AS9100 Rev. D is slipping. I promised October, but I'm still writing it and October is halfway over, so I am not sure when this will be edited and then made available.

If it's any consolation, this means -- like the last book -- the page count is growing. I originally envisioned Surviving AS9100 as a shorter companion piece to Surviving ISO 9001, but then it seemed unfair for people to have to buy two books, so I am essentially going over the entire AS9100 standard including the ISO 9001 portions. Yes, this means I am re-writing the content from Surviving ISO 9001 (no copy and paste here), but readers of Surviving AS9100 won't have to buy a second book on ISO 9001 to understand it. It's all self-contained now.

Prior readers of Surviving ISO 9001 won't feel ripped off, either, since that book still contains the huge section on the history and origin of ISO 9001:2015, including the bullshit behind Annex SL. I didn't include that in Surviving AS9100, since those readers may not care.

What does Surviving AS9100 have in it though? First, of course, is a full walkthrough of the AS9100 Rev. D standard, complete with some background and history of squabbles by the various authors and aerospace primes. But the focus is entirely on aerospace manufacturers (sorry, service sector, AS9100 hates you), and primarily for those working on products related to commercial aviation (planes) and space (rockets). It won't matter if you're an aero prime yourself of a downstream supplier, the book should enlighten you no matter what.

There are special sections on setting up a counterfeit part control program, FOD prevention program, as well as complying with ITAR and EAR. The latter should be a special chapter written by a guest star author, who knows those regulations better than me, but no official announcement is ready on that point yet.

You can still pre-order Surviving AS9100 Rev D for only $35, which will get you the book as soon as its finished, before everyone else. The final retail price should be somewhere between $50-60, so it's a good savings. Remember, though, this is an e-book and readable on your Kindle, tablet or PC. I'm still thinking about how to do a hardcopy version, but that's not in the pipeline right now.

The hope is to give pre-order buyers additional content, too, with my current plan being to include two additional chapters - -one on AS9110 and another on AS9120 -- as a free gift, which won't be included in the final retail copy. That means if you pre-order at the lower price, you actually get more book. Weird, huh?

As usual, both books come with an adult language warning. Whereas Surviving ISO 9001 was relatively tame, I'm earning the cover warning with Surviving AS9100. Bring your sense of humor and your affinity for profanity.

You can pre-order the book at our sister website http://www.SurvivingAS9100.com. And of course, Surviving ISO 9001:2015 is still available, too, over at http://www.SurvivingISO9001.com.

At least you won't have to wait as long for my book as you will for that next Game of Thrones novel.
