I need help

My company consist of 10 employees we are not complaint to AS9100D but im working on it.

The engineering staff (QTY 3) does not know the correct way to assign part numbers, rev drawing, or basic Y14 fundamentals  here is an example:

customer Drawing part number 300785-01 Rev: A

we should develop assembly, sub assembly, Mach drawings, laser art work, etc. with our own part numbers traceable to a PO

this is there practice

part number-1 Rev: A = Mach drawing

part number-2 Rev: A = Sub Assembly

Part number -3 Rev: A = Assembly

this is confusing the more i dive in to it ( no tractability to PO)

Is there a standard or documentation i can look at to help me with this issue of the proper way to create part numbers.

The engineering staff are really drafters elevated to engineers i cant train them, its beyond my scope but i want and need to help them

I think what you’re looking for is ASME Y14.100. Do a Google search for “ASME Y14.100” and the second result provides the download.

But even then, it gives you broad guidance on actual numbering. But that might get you started.
